Teddy Swims – I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour
With Matt Hansen
Doors: 7:00 PM
Teddy Swims is an anomaly. The vocal powerhouse has defied traditional “rules” of the music industry, to create his own sound by blending genres from pop to soul, hip-hop, and R&B.
Teddy grew up navigating different worlds: he was a football player, a musical theater student and the grandson of a Pentecostal pastor. Teddy was exposed to a wider variety of music than most “country boys.” Starting in high school and over the next few years he performed in several bands, genres ranging from 80’s hair metal to funk, modern metalcore, soul, and country alternative bands, all lending a hand in making who Teddy is as an artist today.
After dedicating his life to music as a kid, Teddy Swims—a.k.a. Atlanta native Jaten Dimsdale—unassumingly knocked on the door of stardom and claimed the payoff of a decades-long grind in 2019. Broadcasting covers from a makeshift bedroom studio, he lit up the Internet with hundreds of millions of views and quickly gained a following of over 4 million. That was just the first step though. Teddy fashioned a show-stopping signature style out of soaring soul, intimate R&B, rock energy, and hip-hop swagger all uplifted by his earthquaking vocals leaving tastemakers such as American Songwriter, Billboard, Flaunt, and Idolator and living legends like Shania Twain speechless. Rolling Stone christened him a 2021 “Artist To Watch” as he simultaneously went from covering his idols on YouTube to performing original music of his own on national television.
Ultimately, he took all of the lessons from a life-changing year and distilled them in his 2021 debut EP, Unlearning [Warner Records].
“I’ve learned so much about how to just get out of my own way,” he admits. “We all tend to overthink. I’m my own worst critic. Sometimes, I psych myself out, because I know people are counting on me. I don’t want to let them down. However, I’m finally learning to trust my gut, stop trying to compare myself to people, and to just let me be authentic to the only me in the world.”
Turns out, that’s all he needed to do. Teddy wrote constantly. Joined by a handful of buddies, he prolifically penned almost 300 songs. Since his 2021 debut EP, Teddy Swims has collaborated with top artists such as Meghan Trainor, Thomas Rhett, and Illenium. He has long moved on from his bedroom studio performances to the stages of The Kelly Clarkson Show, The Today Show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and America’s Got Talent – just to name a few. With more than 870 million global streams to his credit, as well as a social following that exceeds 10 million, Teddy’s infectious personality and undeniably distinct voice has clearly connected.
Fast forward to 2023 – after capturing the ears of millions with his viral covers, top original hits, and collaborations, he has gone on to perform at sold out shows in the US, Australia, and UK – and is continuing with a world tour this Summer ’23 and Fall ’23. His first single of 2023, “What More Can I Say” comes out May 5th with new music coming till the end of the year. This year will unquestionably be a big year for Teddy Swims.
